The diversity of learning opportunities at the farm provides something for everyone, no matter your age or interest. Just in the last month, we hosted groups of all ages from pre-k students to young professionals to seniors, each utilizing our farm to learn, explore, and expand their experience with and understand of food:

Fraga Pre-K Field Trip

Preschoolers from Angelita Fraga Pre-K spent the day exploring the farm expanding on their recent lessons on the 5 senses and harvested radishes, tasted spearmint, and planted cilantro. We love having such curious and energetic youngsters to the farm.

Field to Fork: Company Cooking Class

Each month, employees with Alvarez & Marsal attend a health or fitness class sponsored by their firm. Last month they joined us for a healthy cooking class incorporating our fresh produce. They harvested direct from the fields and cooked up recipes right on the farm. The class was facilitated by theLowFi Pralineteam who we can always count on to do a great job.

Big Brother Big Sister Visit

Big Brother Big Sister brought twenty (20) of their matches to visit us on the farm to learn more about where their food comes from. We harvested fresh produce from the fields, washed, chopped and cooked up several dishes that we shared together for lunch.

Cooking Class for Local Parents

Parents from Ninfa Laurenzo Early Childhood Center took part in a healthy cooking class on the farm. We harvest fresh produce and prepare a healthy recipe. This is a series of monthly classes we host through a partnership with the Houston Food Bank as part of our Community Farm Share Program (info above). Thank you to the Food Bank for facilitating these classes and to our Community Sponsors who make this program possible.

AARP Chimichurri Date Night

We hosted a Chimichurri Date Night on the farm where class participants learned how to grow ingredients for the iconic Chimichurri sauce at home, how to prepare several classic versions, and were able to compare their tastes with their dinner. Thank you to everyone that attended the class and to AARP Texas for sponsoring this free class for our community.
