NOTES FROM THE FIELD

Next Saturday, May 16th (3-8pm), we’ll be celebrating our 4th annual Salsa de Mayo Festival right here on the farm.

For those who haven’t heard about it yet, this is our annual celebration of tomato season in Houston where we come together around some of our neighbors’ homemade salsas to gather, connect and taste.

We started this festival to highlight and celebrate what makes Houston’s seasons unique and to create ritual and tradition around them.

While this celebration is centered around the tomato, in my mind, it really is a harvest festival. I think of this time of year as our Thanksgiving. A last hurrah for a year’s long journey as we prepare for the harsh heat of the Inferno season ahead. Our team started this journey in September and we’re wrapping up that long, ten month journey in the next few weeks.

I hope you’ll come out and see us on the 16th whether as a volunteer, a salsa participant, or a neighbor tasting and voting for your favorite. It’s all meaningful.

As always it’s free to attend and vote and we’ll have food and drinks for purchase, games for the kids and of course, more tomatoes if you want.

Happy tomato season,

Tommy

CSA pick-up will be happening as normal. Please plan ahead to pick up your share before 1pm if you’d like to avoid the extra long lines and far parking from the festival.
