Our Impact

Small Places has developed a Food Access Model to overcome the numerous barriers to accessing fresh food that members of our community experience. Our Farm Store provides an integrated solution by meeting people where they are and implementing multiple programs, offerings, and outlets to increase the capacity and avenues for all members of our neighborhood to be healthy.

Farm Store & Marketplace

Our Farm Store is open twice a week, Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10 am – 7 pm. We sell the food we grow, along with produce, meat, dairy, and eggs from local farm partners.

LBJ Hospital Community Farm

Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital developed 2 acres on their hospital campus into a Community Farm to serve the surrounding Kashmere Trinity and Houston Gardens neighborhoods. Small Places was brought in to consult with the Harris Health System supporting them in this innovative project during its inception in 2016.

The LBJ Hospital Community Farm is the first urban, public hospital in the nation with a farm dedicated to improving the health of their community. Small Places worked with the Community Farm to conduct a Community Agricultural Needs Assessment (C.A.N.A.) for the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s a wonderful resource to learn more about this project, its goals, its vision, and its impacts.

Now running independently, we are proud to have been involved in this project and hope it serves as another example of how closely tied food, health, and agriculture are to our communities.

Nourish the Community you Love!

We love this neighborhood because it’s our home. We believe everyone deserves access to the highest-quality fresh food – especially those who face daily barriers to getting it. And over the last ten years, we’ve learned that our community believes this too. Your gift helps us grow that impact – expanding programs, nourishing more families, and strengthening the health of the East End.
