What is your name and position? How long have you worked at Finca?
“My name is Mary Trimble and I am the Operations Manager. I have worked at Finca for just over a year and a half. I started as a volunteer in May 2020.”
What is a special memory or favorite event you have had on the farm?
“A memory I will always remember on the farm is the winter storm of February 2021. The team worked extremely hard the week before the storm in cold, wet conditions to give the farm the best chance to make it through the storm. It was a difficult time, but we all rose to the occasion and came together as a farm team. I remember all of us huddled together in the office (shipping container) to try and warm our fingers up on our space heaters, while Tommy gave us a pep talk, before heading back out to harvest, wash and pack everything we could save. I’m thankful for those memories and the dedication Finca has to keep this farm operating.”
What is something you have learned about farming at Finca that you will take with you?
“The beauty and power of observation. It seems like everything was always changing on the farm and you had to pay attention in order to know what the best next step was. I learned to slow down, observe and listen to what the plants, staff and community needed to grow.”
What is something you are proud of from your time at Finca?
“I am proud to have helped Finca in its last year of operation at the current location. I’m proud to have been able to build on what others before me had built and to serve the community that I live and work in.”
What are you most excited about for Finca’s future?
“I am most excited to see how Finca influences the culture of health in Houston. I believe in Finca’s mission and that the work they are doing is a necessity for this city.”
