When did you work at Finca? And what was/were your position(s)?

“Feb 2019-Dec 2020. I was a farmer, Director of Education, and then just helped part-time in the fields and with farm stands.”

What are you doing now?

“Teaching Health Fitness (PE) at Nottingham Elementary”

A special memory/favorite event you have from the farm?

“I loved all the field trips and the excitement of students discovering insects in the compost. They always wigged out! There was also a really fun farm dinner with a bonfire, amazing food and drinks that always make me smile when I think about it!”

What is something you learned while farming at Finca that you have taken with you even after you left?

“Several basic farming techniques (creating soil, knowing what to grow when, how to observe a plant to learn what in its environment is causing it to struggle/strive); and the idea that one small positive thing can lead to another, and another, and then eventually you have a pretty big collection of positive things. Tbh, I forget the guy who created that theory, but the big picture of his idea impacts my life regularly.”

What are you most proud of about your time at Finca?

“I’m proud of writing a full curriculum for field trips and helping to grow the education program. It was very rewarding to take a huge wealth of Tommy’s knowledge and get it down to a concise set of stations around the farm for students to learn and enjoy. We got to implement a few of the trips before the pandemic, and they were pretty awesome.”
