HOW DID YOU LEARN ABOUT SMALL PLACES/FINCA TRES ROBLES AND WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO JOIN?
I learned about Finca Tres Robles through Instagram. Someone I follow shared a Finca post that was requesting resumes for a delivery driver position. I checked out Finca’s Instagram and website, and I was impressed with their values and community-building efforts. I share the same values as Small Places and was also interested in a position where I could interact with people on a deeper level than I was doing with my job at the time. I started the delivery job in March, and when the Programming and Community Outreach Coordinator position became available with Small Places months later, I was very excited for the opportunity to turn my part time efforts to full time.
IN WHAT ROLE WILL YOU BE SUPPORTING THE MISSION OF SMALL PLACES?
I will be working on the programming for the future location and continued community engagement efforts.
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS A CHALLENGING ASPECT OF YOUR WORK?
There is a lot of information to take in at this stage regarding who we as an organization collaborate and partner with. However, I’ve been enjoying getting to know everyone and hope to keep learning about their efforts on a deeper level as time goes on.
WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST REWARDS OF WORKING HERE?
Being able to create relationships and networks with great people from all sorts of backgrounds.
WHAT DOES COMMUNITY MEAN TO YOU?
To me, community means having a support system of people who are there for you, who want to see you succeed, and vice versa. A network of people who have a variety of different resources and knowledge they’re willing to share with others so everyone can have a bit of everything they need.
WHAT FOODS ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING GROWN AT THE NEW FARM?
I’ve had a persimmon that was grown on the old farm and it was so delightful. I am also a big fan of leafy greens and tomatoes. It’s hard to choose just one!
WHAT DO YOU DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I spend a good amount of my free time organizing with local advocates for transportation justice. I also enjoy riding my bike, reading, cooking interesting new meals, making music, and playing with my rat terrier, Teddy.
