It is important that we support black-owned businesses.
Examination of wealth in the U.S. finds staggering racial disparities. The origins of today’s racial wealth gap is traced back to Jim Crow-era practices of job discrimination and redlining which segregated African Americans from higher paying jobs, home ownership, and virtually every other avenue of wealth building.
By supporting black owned businesses, we help in not only closing this gap, but in strengthening our local communities and economies and fostering visibility and representation. We have compiled a list on our blog of black-owned and led farm/gardening/food businesses and accounts here in Houston.
