Notes from the field
Wednesday, October 21
Dear CSA friends,
Welcome to week four of the farm share! The transition from Summer to Fall is always a beautiful time at the farm, and not just because it’s suddenly sweater weather (though that is a big plus). The Summer crops are waning and saying goodbye and the Fall and Winter crops are starting their in-ground journey.
It’s also a perfect time for coming together on the farm. A few Saturdays ago we held a picnic for families who participate in our Neighborhood Food Access Program. It was a beautiful evening: kids playing on the lawn, families getting to know each other, and all of this over a delicious dinner. Events like we had that day are some of my favorite experiences here at Finca. It speaks to the work that our farm team has accomplished to make the space welcoming as a gathering place, and to the good vibes our staff and volunteers emit.
We also had a few free cooking classes recently where attendees were able to visit the field and experience their own honorable harvest. We shared appreciation to the plants for the gift of food it was providing to us before plucking and taking a part of it inside to cook. I will never get over the look of wonder and excitement folks get when they have an opportunity to pick their own food from our field.
Your support keeps these sorts of experiences going for our community members, so thank you, thank you, thank you!
Until next time,
Tiffany
