"EM. Vel\u00e1squez fue una de las primeras personas que conoc\u00ed del barrio. <\/p>\n

Un d\u00eda detuvo su camioneta mientras yo estaba trabajando afuera de la granja a lo largo de la carretera. Como todos los dem\u00e1s, ten\u00eda curiosidad por saber qu\u00e9 est\u00e1bamos haciendo. Despu\u00e9s de contarle los detalles de la granja, nos enteramos de que mis hermanos le hab\u00edan ense\u00f1ado a su hijo en la Escuela Cat\u00f3lica Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de Guadalupe en el East End. La conexi\u00f3n se ha vuelto m\u00e1s real desde entonces.<\/p>\n

No sab\u00eda entonces cu\u00e1nto ver\u00eda a la Sra. Vel\u00e1squez en los meses y a\u00f1os venideros. Se deten\u00eda en medio de un d\u00eda cualquiera buscando aloe vera, lechuga o moringa y siempre me hac\u00eda pasar un mal rato por algo. \u201c\u00a1Esta planta necesita agua! \u00a1Necesitas quitar la maleza alrededor de este \u00e1rbol! \u00a1Estos beb\u00e9s de aloe vera los puedes separar en macetas y revender! <\/p>\n

Pasaba por all\u00ed despu\u00e9s de nuestro puesto en la granja los s\u00e1bados, dejaba una bolsa de productos y compraba un lote de tamales un par de semanas despu\u00e9s. Nuestra relaci\u00f3n ha sido una de esas en las que nos hemos visto en los buenos y en los dif\u00edciles momentos. Ya sea un plato de pozole o un compa\u00f1ero guero para ayudar a resolver un problema, la amistad es mutua y nos sentimos afortunados de tenerla a ella y a su familia en nuestra comunidad agr\u00edcola. \u201c<\/p>\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1l es su relaci\u00f3n con Finca Tres Robles? \u00bfCu\u00e1l fue tu primera vez en la granja?<\/p>\n

Vimos la granja cuando \u00edbamos camino a la iglesia y en 2014 decidimos venir a ver qu\u00e9 era y comenzamos a venir a buscar algunas verduras. Conocimos a Tommy y siempre fue muy bueno con nosotros. \u00a1Y a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde descubr\u00ed que el padre de Tommy era mi m\u00e9dico cuando estaba dando a luz a uno de mis hijos! Todo vuelve.<\/p>\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1les son tus cosas favoritas para cocinar?<\/p>\n

\n

Me encanta hacer posole, tamales, tortillas. Mi hijo dijo que ahora no puede comer ninguna otra tortilla en ning\u00fan otro lugar, solo puede comer las m\u00edas porque son sus favoritas. Y me encanta hacer pollo teriyaki con muchas de las verduras de aqu\u00ed: bok choi, zanahorias y espinacas. Es una de mis cosas favoritas.<\/p>\n

\u00bfQu\u00e9 m\u00e1s te gusta hacer con nuestros productos?<\/p>\n

\n

Me encantan tus tomates y tu col rizada tambi\u00e9n. Me encanta poner espinacas, col rizada y moringa en batidos para m\u00ed y mi hijo. Nuestro batido favorito es el de pi\u00f1a, col rizada, espinacas, moringa, jengibre y c\u00farcuma. Lo tomamos casi todas las ma\u00f1anas, es muy bueno para ti.<\/p>\n

\u00bfCu\u00e1les son tus cosas favoritas de vivir en el East End?<\/p>\n

\n

He estado aqu\u00ed durante 30 a\u00f1os y vine aqu\u00ed porque era un vecindario seguro y tranquilo. Aunque ahora muchas cosas est\u00e1n cambiando, siempre ser\u00e1 mi barrio.<\/p>\n

\u00bfAlgo m\u00e1s que le gustar\u00eda compartir, Sra. Vel\u00e1zquez?<\/p>\n

He estado viendo mucho en youtube sobre c\u00f3mo cuidar las plantas y \u00bfsab\u00edas que si tomas c\u00e1scaras de huevo y las asas en el horno hasta que est\u00e9n completamente secas, puedes triturarlas en trozos peque\u00f1os y luego mezclarlas con tierra? y ponerlo alrededor de la base de tus plantas y les ayudar\u00e1 a crecer, como un fertilizante natural?<\/p>\n

\n

\u00a1Tambi\u00e9n puedes hacerlo con c\u00e1scaras de pl\u00e1tano licuadas!<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, \u00a1d\u00edgale a Tommy que su aloe vera y romero necesitan m\u00e1s agua! \u00a1M\u00edralos! \u00a1Tienen sed!<\/p>\n
