Casi todos los mi\u00e9rcoles, Olimpia es la primera persona que se presenta a nuestro puesto agr\u00edcola antes de que lo abramos oficialmente a las 2 p.m. <\/p>\n

Tenemos este ritual semanal que me molest\u00f3 un poco la primera vez, pero que ahora espero con ansias cada mi\u00e9rcoles. Ella sale de su desgastado Honda Accord verde bosque y camina lentamente hacia nuestro puesto agr\u00edcola con una leve sonrisa si tenemos suerte. Ella pregunta qu\u00e9 tenemos esta semana y quiere que enumere cada art\u00edculo a pesar de que est\u00e1n en la pantalla y ella los est\u00e1 mirando directamente. Generalmente una o dos cosas llamar\u00e1n su atenci\u00f3n. \u201cOh, cebollas verdes, umm. Se ven bien\u201d. Aunque recibe nuestras cebollas en manojos casi todas las semanas cuando las tenemos y el precio nunca cambia, siempre pregunta cu\u00e1nto cuestan. Le dije a ella. \u201c\u00a1Aaay! pero eso es muy caro. Puedo conseguirlos por mucho menos en Seller Bros\u201d. <\/p>\n

Luego repito mi historia d\u00e1ndole todo lo que tengo. \u201cPero los cultiv\u00e9 con mis propias manos. Hacemos todo nuestro trabajo a mano. Los sembr\u00e9 hace meses y los cuido con amor y atenci\u00f3n desde entonces. No utilizamos pesticidas ni productos qu\u00edmicos. Son las cebollas m\u00e1s frescas de toda esta ciudad. Los recog\u00ed esta ma\u00f1ana\u201d.<\/p>\n

Esto hace poco para convencerla o cambiar la mirada seria que me lanza. Entonces la miro y le digo: \u201cPara ti Olimpia, esta vez te har\u00e9 un descuento. Pero no se lo digas a todo el mundo\u201d. Y le daremos un descuento en lo que compre. Generalmente nos regala una gran sonrisa al final cuando nos entrega el $3-$5 que pasa aqu\u00ed todas las semanas.<\/p>\n

Olimpia Rodr\u00edguez y su esposo son una de las familias que recibir\u00e1 una bolsa \u201cTren\u201d de nuestra finca. El mi\u00e9rcoles pasado quisieron venir a recoger su bolso (y una docena de huevos) a nuestro autoservicio en lugar de dejarlo. Esta vez su marido la acompa\u00f1\u00f3. Ambos estaban muy agradecidos. No dejaba que su marido se fuera sin darnos $5, su peque\u00f1o agradecimiento junto con una buena sonrisa. Es el tipo de sonrisa por el que trabajamos y la que nos mantiene motivados.<\/p>\n

Nuestra lista de personas necesitadas sigue creciendo, actualmente atendemos a 43 hogares con un total de 124 personas. 34 personas mayores reciben una bolsa cada dos semanas y 22 familias de entre 3 y 10 personas reciben una bolsa de productos cada semana. Y seguiremos haci\u00e9ndolo y m\u00e1s mientras podamos f\u00edsicamente. <\/p>\n

Un gran agradecimiento a Nancy's Hustle, que ha ayudado a ampliar nuestra oferta donando arroz y frijoles secos (una gran solicitud de las familias durante las primeras semanas del programa), tomates enlatados y horneando algunos de sus espectaculares panes de masa madre frescos para nuestras familias. este s\u00e1bado.<\/p>\n

She steps out of her worn, forest green Honda Accord and slowly walks up to our farm stand with a slight grin if we’re lucky. She asks what we have this week wanting me to list off every item even though they’re on the display and she’s looking right at them.
